History: Mass Rapes Of German Women After World War Two's End
In hindsight, I should not be shocked that this happened, as mass rapes are a tragic part of the history of war amongst humans.
However, the fact that this happened does not make it any less shocking.
Soldiers from Russia π·πΊ were encouraged to rape the women in Germany π©πͺ. However, they were not the only nation whose soldiers engaged in this behavior.
Troops from the United States πΊπΈ, France π«π·, & other allied soldiers saw the women in numerous German towns as war trophies.
The primary difference between the rapes by the Russian π·πΊ & American πΊπΈ soldiers (plus allied forces) is commanders from the latter overlooked the rapes conducted by troops under their command.
Ironically, when soldiers were punished for rapes, they were only carried out against foreign fighters serving France π«π· (Allied forces never punished Caucasian rapists).
What is sad about this tragedy is that kids birthed as a result of the rape were often sent away to foster homes or to France π«π· (if the rapist was known to be French). Women sometimes were ostracized by society for publicly talking about being raped (even by relatives).
Decades later, people are now speaking about what happened during this time, although hopefully, more will come out as their stories need to be told.
